The Need

At Scale delivered a tailored Protected Learning Time session as part of a London Training Hubs Neighbourhood Working event. Supporting professionals from across 2 boroughs to better understand forthcoming NHS changes and its impact to Primary Care. The session equipped teams with practical guidance on staying informed, strengthening leadership capability and preparing to secure future funding opportunities.

What we did

Primary care is experiencing rapid, often confusing changes in national policy, contracts and system structures, making it difficult for frontline teams to understand and respond effectively.

Key concerns focussed on how NHS reforms would impact their roles, partnerships, commissioning and funding opportunities. At Scale were commissioned to deliver a tailored Protected Learning Time (PLT) session to help participants interpret the changes, understand implications for their organisations, and identify practical steps to improve resilience and readiness.

We provided

  • A focussed overview of current NHS reforms
  • Impact and opportunities for primary care
  • Practical steps to stay informed and avoid information overload
  • Leadership and Partnership across a Neighbourhood footprint
  • Engaging with system leaders and the value of accessing mentoring and peer networks to build leadership strength
  • Contracts, funding and bid readiness

Participants were encouraged to focus on their unique value, demonstrate impact, and proactively prepare for potential tenders. The session aimed to demystify reforms, build skills and confidence, and equip teams to anticipate and respond to future developments.

Outcomes

Throughout the session, At Scale used interactive discussion, scenario-based exploration and open Q&A to ensure the content connected directly to participants’ real-world challenges. This helped translate national change into local relevance, making the session practical rather than abstract. By the end, attendees had a clearer sense of what was changing, what it meant for them and the immediate steps they could take to prepare for the future.

The session was extremely well received, with feedback highlighting increased clarity, confidence and understanding of the NHS landscape. Participants reported feeling better equipped to interpret policy changes, engage proactively with local partners and prepare for emerging opportunities. Many valued the demystification of NHS reforms, noting that the practical tools and examples helped them translate uncertainty into action.

The training hub fed back that the session strengthened local readiness, particularly in relation to leadership development and future funding opportunities. Professionals left with a clearer understanding of how to position themselves for forthcoming changes, how to monitor developments and where to focus their energy as the system continues to evolve. Several teams have since begun exploring mentoring connections and reviewing their organisational preparation for future bids, supported by the frameworks shared during the PLT.

The session from At Scale gave our teams exactly what they needed — clarity, confidence and practical direction. Their explanation of NHS changes and guidance on staying informed, building leadership strength and preparing for future funding opportunities was invaluable. It helped us understand the road ahead and take action now rather than wait.
